Run for Shelter: Goodwill Industries’ Help the Homeless Marathon in Michigan
Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan started as Asgard Enterprises in 1972. Fourteen years later, Asgard joined forces with Goodwill Industries International to form the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan. From there, things really took off. Adopting the strategies of other Goodwill Industries, Goodwill Industries of North Michigan relies heavily on donations from the public.
Whether you donate an old wardrobeor a lawn mower, your donation will be used to help the community in several different ways. Often your donted items will be sold at auction or in store to provide funding for Goodwill’s many projects. Alternatively, the items could be sold at a discounted rate to a family that is perhaps less fortunate than others. This cycle of donation and support has served the charity well for many years and allows the community to give something back.
In April this year, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan is sponsoring a five kilometer run called ‘Run for Shelter’. This will take place on the 18th of April, at 9:00 a.m in Traverse City, Michigan. Runners of all types are welcome. This is a great example of how charities like Goodwill Industries help to bring the whole community together.
