Are cars sold by eBay auction cheaper than actual private sales through newspaper classifieds?

Looking for a car around £500-1000, it seems that cars sold by eBay auction go for much less than the privately advertised prices in local papers and Autotrader. Do cars in local classified ads actually sell anywhere near the asking prices? Would people pay eBay fees to sell their cars for less? Any knowledge welcome, please!

They are cheaper because there is a greater risk; you seldom get to see the car before you buy. People just will not pay so much.

Go to a local auction – just as cheap,if not more so, plus you can see the cars there.and judge better.

Give ebay a wide berth when it comes to buying cars.
