I want to sell a rare children’s book – where is the best place to sell it?

It is so rare that there are NO other copies for sale on the Internet and is maybe worth around £1,000.
Do I sell it on eBay and take a chance, contact an auction house or what?

Firstly have you had it valued. If not do that first, It may not be worth as much as you think, when you have done that, try e-bay, and set a price for what you want for it, so you are not ripped off. Good luck.
