With over 100 million members, eBay offers one of the largest shopping destinations in the world. On eBay, you can buy almost anything, and fabulous prices. Of course, for every buyer there is a seller, so you can sell almost anything too. In fact, the items with an intrinsic value often pass for high prices. There is, however, some restrictions on what can and can not be sold.

The most obvious category of items that can not be sold on eBay are items that would be illegal to sell outside of eBay. For example, you can not legally sell satellite decoders for off-line and therefore are not permitted on eBay either. Of course people occasionally try to sell illegal items on eBay, but auctions are quickly eliminated and associated accounts are prohibited.

Copies of copyrighted material such as CDs, DVDs, and software can not be legally sold through eBay or otherwise. "Backups" auctions are not legal and that offer will be closed quickly. Of course, you are free to sell the media property that has lawfully obtained, provided they do not keep a copy of the issue for their own use.

eBay does not allow the sale of "imitation or replica items. That fake Coach bag that you have have to stay in power, like the fake Oakley sunglasses. While laws on the replicas are strictly applied, these items are illegal, in all contexts.

In addition, eBay prohibits the sale of products covered by federal or state government. That means they can not sell alcohol, snuff or firearms on eBay even if you have a permit to legally sell in his hometown. Prescription drugs are also banned for the same reason. There are some exceptions to this rule, however. The sale of collectible items in these categories is generally allowed, but be sure to read eBay's rules on these auctions, and which are closely monitored and there is little tolerance for mistakes.

The sale of animals and many animal parts is prohibited. This includes both life and creatures Teddy and the majority of products such as ivory, which are made from endangered species.

Event tickets may be sold, but in many jurisdictions it is illegal to sell for a price above their face value. Local law still applies in selling online, so be sure to check local rules and regulations regarding the sale of tickets. Lottery and raffle tickets can not be sold on eBay, and "auctions draw, where the buyer gives a list of items and told them to get an item from the list at random, are also prohibited. The only exception to this rule are items in bulk unsorted as sports cards and collectible coins.

Lastly, eBay does not allow the sale of "services". Not considered a service to be an issue at all, and therefore can not sell a painting of the house "or" mowing "on eBay.

If you are unsure about the eligibility of an item that should not either list, or contact eBay directly for guidance. Its not worth risking your account to sell a contentious issue, and certainly not want to end up unknowingly violating the law.
