Whats with the Mike VIck Phenomenon?
For months now I have been baffled about the phenomenon surrounding Mike Vick and the Dog Fighting case. The media frenzy around all of it is ridiculous. What baffled me even more is Animal Lovers going after a quick buck. T-shirts, chew toys, chewed up football cards on Ebay all to “benefit” the Humane Society.
The personification of pets in America is absurd. Dogs and Cats are eaten in other countries, here they are worshipped. 16,000 dogs die each year in dog fights. Congrats, you saved 40 some pit bulls. I’m sure they will make good wholesome family pets. The Humane society can sleep well at night knowing they got more funding off the deaths of those dogs and Mike Vick’s name. I’m sure some of the ebay auction money didnt even make it to a humane society.
The NFL has convicted criminals all over the place. Men have killed and still play the game and I hope they welcome Vick back the same way they did with those players.
Thoughts?
Where I live in the Caribbean dog fighting is a cultural thing (as well as fighting chickens). I don’t believe it is right, but I also don’t believe that a man should loose his career and lively hood over it. He was a football player, not the president of the humane society. I think the whole thing was blown out of proportion by the media. Let it go people, he will do his time, pay his fine then he should be free and clear to peruse any career he wishes.
