Can I put a modern radio in my Chevrolet 1994 C 2500?
I just received a 1994 Chevrolet C 2500 an auction of the city. It is one of the yellow truck to do with arrow panels during the construction of roads (not to get one with an arrow board in case anyone was wondering). It is all metal and is in great shape. The radio is that now is a very old man who looks and sounds bad and I want to replace it. However, it seems to be slightly narrower than a modern radio and wonder if that's only because it is a truck and there is a difference between truck and car radios, or if it's because the truck is old. Will I need to mount the new radio into the dashboard or I will be able to extract the old and replace it as you would normally. thanks.
A typical 1994 GM full size truck uses a 2-part or system 3-piece audio. There is a control unit mounted on the climate controls, and an amplifier / tuner pack buried under the dash, above and right of the accelerator pedal. Some trucks also have a cassette player in the vents located in the center of the board. Some trucks do not work the tuner separate / amp, in this case the amplifier and tuner are built into the control box. This is quite rare, however. In any case, you can not put an aftermarket radio the location of the control unit. However, there are teams that let you put a standard "DIN" unity in the cassette location (even if you do not have cassette player, you can still use the kit). A team replaces the entire panel, including the vent openings, and is available in six factory with the colors. http://www.audiooutfitter.com/gm1482gr/scosche/p73817.html Bring your truck for a local car audio shop, and be able to tell what your options are.
