Why Auction

If you have an auction on eBay with a reserve price, why do people always ask what is the reserve?
Is this legal in the rules of eBay? Why have a reservation and then tell people what it is? Am I wrong here?
No, you're right about the rules of eBay. However, as a bidder relatively new, it's frustrating when the bid on an item and have no idea if I'm still at the stage of the booking price. From a marketing standpoint, Why not start the bid at the reserve price and call it a first try and then let people bid it up? In this way your reservation is affirmed, without being qualified "reserve" and outbid people who think that unless the initial offer is too expensive for the article.
